Environment, Cultural Heritage, and ESG

Terri Janke and Company understands the importance of Indigenous Knowledge in caring for Country and acknowledges the natural resource management that has existed on this continent for generations. Bringing a strong background in Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and the role this plays in environmental management for now and the future, we have the capacity to assist with projects in this area.

 

Examples of projects that Terri Janke and Company are working on or have worked on in this area include:

  • from 2022-2024, Senior Solicitor, Laura Melrose, and Dr. Terri Janke worked with the National Native Title Council and the First Nations Heritage Protection Alliance to Produce the Dhawura Ngilan Business and Investor Guide

  •  In 2021, Senior Solicitor Laura Melrose co-wrote a report for the Parliamentary Inquiry into the destruction of 46,000-year-old caves at Juukan Gorge, which contributed to the final Inquiry report, A Way Forward;

  • Dr Terri Janke has been appointed a co-chief author of the 2021 National State of the Environment Report (SoE). This is the first time an Indigenous author has been appointed, strengthening the recognition of Indigenous knowledge and science in the management of the Australian environment. Read more here.

  • Indigenous Ecological Knowledge and Natural Resources in the Northern Territory: Working under the direction of the National Centre of Indigenous Studies (NCIS) at the Australian National University (ANU), Terri Janke and Company contributed to a project on Indigenous Ecological Knowledge (IEK) and Natural Resource Management in the Northern Territory.
