Expertise

Dylan is a Solicitor at Terri Janke and Company who values collaborating with our other lawyers and our clients to provide the best possible services. Since joining Terri Janke and Company as a paralegal in April 2023, Dylan has assisted with a diverse range of matters pertaining to Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property, Indigenous Data Sovereignty, governance, and artist agreements.


Dylan has advanced skills in written communication as well as in legal and social science research, developed both through his studies and his involvement with community legal and advocacy organisations. Dylan majored in social justice at university and is well-versed in legal and social issues pertaining to matters of social justice.

Experience

Dylan was admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW in December 2024 and has experience working in the community, health, government, environmental, university, and arts sectors to help produce positive outcomes for Fist Nations peoples. Dylan graduated with honours from Macquarie University in 2022, qualifying for a Bachelor of Social Science with a Bachelor of Laws. He has experience undertaking qualitative and quantitative social research to produce independent research reports on behalf of community organisations. While at university, he conducted an independent research project on recidivism reduction. In 2022, Dylan interned through a university placement with the National Justice Project, a not-for-profit service providing legal assistance to First Nations clients.


Recent Projects

  • Listen Loudly, Act Strongly – in 2024, Dylan was a member of the Review Team at TJC that conducted an independent review into systems and processes in support of staff who experience racism at the      Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

  • The development of reports, protocols and policies aimed at protecting the rights of First Nations peoples to their Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property;

  • Research promoting Indigenous Data Sovereignty rights;

  • Providing governance training and Intellectual Property advice to Aboriginal      Community Controlled Organisations;

  • Providing governance advice for First Nations arts institutions;

  • Protecting the rights of First Nations artists; and

  • Strengthening contractual arrangements for First Nations organisations.

Community

Dylan is passionate about social justice and making positive contributions to the community. He is also passionate about music and spends much of his free time playing music and participating in a variety of music communities.
